i think that pretty much sums up the theme of this post. who’s watching or caring about the spelling bee? i’m not. it’s not that i’m ragging on the idea of the spelling bee or anything, but can sports media outlets cover this a little less? maybe i’m being a stickler here, but i couldn’t give a pile if samir patel got eliminated yesterday, i didn’t even want to know that samir patel was the odds-on favorite in the spelling bee, but yet, here we are. coverage of a bunch of weird kids with even stranger tics spelling a bunch of words that most people have never heard of or will ever read, use, or think about in their lives. let me ask this. when did spelling become a sport, much less interesting? i understand that people are interested because some of the kids are…eccentric?…yea i guess i’ll use eccentric here. that’s a rosy-colored, half-insult. damn, i must be in a sour mood today.
