“i know i can play, but i don’t think i want to.”
if that isn’t the biggest crock of crap you’ve ever heard. brett favre doesn’t want to play football? check out this video and article and tell me without a shadow of a doubt that you believe this man when he says he won’t play football again. i despise brett favre, i really do, but the man has football shaped blood cells. tons of speculation has been floating around about this whole bit. i highly doubt there is any validity to the alleged bitterness about the randy moss deal. he’s got a great core of young, speedy receivers returning as well as a rather stout defense. granted, the pack went 13-3 this past year and haven’t lost any notable players to free agency, but alas, there is no sure thing in the game of professional football. two seasons ago, he had one of the worst years of his career – contemplated retiring – then came back and had one of his best years ever this past season. taking everything into account, not even brett favre knows what kind of season brett favre would have next year. i’m just having an incredibly hard time buying this whole “tearful retirement” show. i’ll believe it next july or august, but right now? not a chance in hell. why so early? let it marinate for a while, brett. no need to rush it. meh, what do i care. let the aaron rodgers era begin!

For the past two offseasons leading up to and through the draft, he’s sort of held the Packers hostage by contemplating retirement. Perhaps he felt like doing the Pack organization a solid this time around?
Why so much hate? Sure he was overrated, a “gunslinger” and slobbered on all over by ESPN, but Fav-re is the reason your Gints are super bowl champs and the Patriots are 18-1. He should be thanked for his service and duty.

i can understand the whole hostage angle.
i’d like to think that the new york giants are the main reason why the new york giants won the super bowl. i’ll give in to the fact that the giants progressively got stronger as a team with each playoff win, but i’m not about to give brett favre an ounce of credit, much less a thank you.
truly, i don’t hate brett favre “the man” at all. i do, however, hate brett favre “the football player” as well as the way certain players take on “god-like” portrayals. everything you mentioned about favre is the reason i dislike him so much. he wasn’t that good, but he was havin’ fun, smilin’, slingin’ the football around like a kid, personal interest story on top of personal interest story. blah, blah, blah. what ever happened to objectivity? if people slobbered over eli, i probably wouldn’t like him either.
david carr wonders why nobody likes him for smilin’ and slingin’ the football around.

Half the time David Carr is picking himself up off the ground after being levelled. Plus, he’s not even in the NFL right now.
Favre’s Monday night game against the Raiders after his father died was pretty amazing.
Still, I got more tired of ESPN fawning over him and the constant “gunslinger” excuses for his numerous dumb interceptions than Brett Favre the actual football player or person.
